Ovalo is an unincorporated community in southern Taylor County, in the rolling plains of West Central Texas. It sits along Farm Road 89, roughly twenty minutes southwest of Abilene, and is part of the Abilene metropolitan area. The community's ZIP code is 79541. Ovalo took shape early in the twentieth century as a small agricultural trading point serving surrounding farm families. Over the decades it developed a school, a bank, a post office, churches, and a handful of businesses that anchored local life. Many of those early landmarks have since closed or been torn down, but a post office and a small cluster of homes and farms continue to mark the community today. Life in Ovalo is shaped by the land. Cotton, wheat, hay, and cattle ranching have long been the economic backbone, and much of the surrounding area remains open ranch and farm country.
