Oglesby is a small incorporated city in eastern Coryell County, Texas, set in the gently rolling countryside between the county seat of Gatesville and the town of McGregor, roughly twenty miles southwest of Waco. The area drew its first settlers by the mid-1850s, part of the gradual agricultural settlement of the Brazos River region, but the community truly took shape in 1882, when the St. Louis Southwestern Railway — commonly known as the Cotton Belt — was built through the area. The railroad fixed the town in place, giving it a depot, a name, and the rail-era beginning typical of small Central Texas farming communities founded in the late nineteenth century.
Today Oglesby has a population of about 440, making it one of the smallest incorporated places in Coryell County.
