Boyd is a town in southern Wise County, Texas, set on State Highway 114 about seven miles south of the county seat, Decatur, in the northern reaches of the Dallas–Fort Worth region. Its 2020 population was about 1,400, and it has grown steadily as the broader North Texas area expands outward, while retaining the small-town character that defines it. The community's origins are agricultural and rail-centered. Farmers settled the site in the early 1890s in the curve of the North Fork of the Trinity River, and the settlement was originally known by the informal name "Greasy Bend." The arrival of the railroad shaped its growth, and the town ultimately took its name from a railroad official.
